Obesity Medicine has become a specialty of its own. An obesity medicine physician focuses on nutrition, physical activity, behavior modification, and medication therapy to help patients lose weight and treat obesity-related diseases. Dr. Dameron is the first, and only, board certified Obesity Medicine physician in the Northern Neck.
What we put into our bodies is critical to our health. To treat obesity and obesity-related diseases a nutritional plan must be developed that is unique for each individual. We work with patients across a wide variety of dietary plans. The diet that works is the diet that you can stick with and incorporate into your lifestyle long-term. Meal replacement therapy is also offered as an adjunct when appropriate.
Increased physical activity is not necessary for initial weight loss. However, as you begin to lose weight increased physical activity becomes vital to weight maintenance. We work with the patient to find ways to incorporate increases in physical activity into their daily routine.
We eat for so many reasons: depression, anxiety, reward, boredom. Getting to the heart of why we eat is critical in losing and maintaining weight loss. We all have a relationship with food and uncovering that relationship will free us to be our best selves.
Obesity is a chronic disease. Much like high blood pressure and diabetes we stress lifestyle modification. However, when changing your lifestyle is not sufficient to control a chronic disease medication may be indicated. We do not view medication as a quick fix and in some cases may need to be prescribed on a long-term basis.
Medications will not be prescribed on initial consultation.
You are not just a number on a scale or your BMI. As part of your initial consultation you will undergo a body composition analysis. This will give us insight into your body fat distribution and allow us to track your weight loss progress with more than just a number on a scale. Your fat distribution, percent body fat, and muscle mass will be closely monitored. Body composition analysis gives us a better picture of your health and progress. We use a start-of-the art Inbody body composition analyzer.
We do offer obesity medicine consultations for non-members. The initial consultation ($150) is a 60-minute comprehensive review of you medical, social, and weight history, a physical exam, review or ordering of labs, ekg, Inbody body composition analysis, and development of a treatment plan. Thirty-minute follow up visits are then offered at appropriate intervals for the patient depending on the treatment plan ($65). Obesity medicine care is included for members.
